๐throwback to our trip in March/April 2024, where one of the schools we visited was Starwood Academy & Rescue Centre, located in the Githogoro slum.
๐Founded by educator Rosalyn Kimatu, she had a vision to establish a facility that would serve hundreds of children in the Githogoro slum, to provide education and be a safe haven rescue centre, and she did just that. Starkid School was established in 2005, with only three children! Today, the school provides education to over 230 kids – which is amazing!๐โ๏ธ
Many of the children have suffered abuse, and live in poor conditions. Rosalyn provides a safe haven for the children to stay (to those who need a place to stay), and provides education to all. Many of the children who attend Starkid, are provided a free education if they unable to afford the school fees. The children at Starkid are exceptionally smart, and work hard at school, some times even starting class before the sun has risen! โ๏ธ The teachers also work hard, in helping the children in their education, as well as teaching them hygiene and life skills.
We have the pleasure of visiting Starkid, and have been fortunate to donate & visit for many years! It is a fantastic academy, with wonderful staff and children! As you can see in the photos, thanks to our sister charity @tftaab_ we were able to donate football kit from clubs such as @england , @wolves, @wallsendboysclub as well as many others! โฝ๏ธ and Thanks to your donations to us at Lottieโs Way, we were also able to donate extra necessities such as; textbooks, and educational items! ๐โ๏ธ
