The report of the National Constituency Review Committee was released on Tuesday (March 11), with the eastern and western constituencies reshuffled, with the total number of constituencies and seats increasing.

Number of voters responsible for constituencies, seats and members of parliament

After the re-division, the number of constituencies in my country increased from 31 in 2020 to33. This includes:

  • Single selection area: 15

  • Four-person constituency: 8

  • Five-person constituency: 10

The total number of seats in parliament increased by four, from the current 93 to97

After the constituency scope is adjusted, the average number of voters responsible for each member is28,384 people126 fewer than the 28,510 people in the 2020 election.

Single selection changes

The total number of single-selected areas increased to 15, but among themSixNew single selection:

Bukit Gombak

  • It is divided into the Choi Chu Kang Gathering District and consists of Bukit Gambo and Hillview residential area.

  • reason:The Choa Chu Kang Gathering Constituency will include the Tengga New Town. In order to maintain this Gathering Constituency in the four-person Gathering Constituency, the committee decided to demarcate the Bukit Gamba single constituency.

Jalan Kayu

  • Divided from the Ang Mo Kio Kio constituency.

  • In the last general election, the Ang Mo Kio Constituency also divided Yang Chugang into the new single constituency. People's Action Party newcomer Ye Hanrong fought a beautiful battle for the first time, defeating the Singapore Progressive Party with a vote of 60.82%.

  • reason:The Ang Mo Kio Kio Constituency is the constituency with the largest number of voters. Dividing the Jalanga can reduce the size of the Ang Mo Kio Constituency.

Jurong Central

  • It is divided from the new Jurong East-Bukit Bato Gathering Constituency, which includes communities originally belonging to the Jurong Gathering Constituency and Yuhua District.

  • reason:Keep Jurong East-Bukit Batoon in the five-member constituency

Queenstown

  • It was divided from the Tanjong Pagar Constituency and consisted of some communities in Queenstown.

  • reason:Let Tanjong Pagar Group Constituency maintain the five-member Group Constituency.

Sembawang West

  • Divided from the Sanbawangji constituency.

  • reason:The population of Sanbawangji constituency increased

Tampines Changkat

  • It is divided from the Tampines constituency and also includes some areas of the East Coast constituency.

  • reason:Tampines constituency population increases

After the scope of the constituency was adjusted, single-selected district councillors accounted for 15.5% of the total seats, a slight increase of 0.4 percentage points.


Changes in the four-person and five-person constituency

The total number of four-person constituencies increased by two to eight. Among them, Punggol is the only brand new four-person constituency.

Punggol Constituency

The new Punggol Gallery constituency includes the Punggol West Single Constituency, which was divided from the White Sand-Punggol Gallery constituency in 2020.   • The Punggol area that contains the White Sand-Punggol Gathering Constituency and is combined with the Punggol West Single Constituency.

  • reason:The White Sand-Punggol Constituency is the constituency with the largest increase in voters, and the Punggol Self-Constituency Constituency can also better reflect the characteristics of this town.

Pasir Ris-Changi

  • Baisha-Changi is a four-person constituency with a large change in the constituency. It is formed by combining some areas of the Baisha-Punggol constituency with the adjacent East Coast constituency Luoyang and Flora districts.

Jurong East-Bukit Batok

  • It is composed of parts of Fengga North, adjacent Bukit Bato and Yuhua District, and is combined with the Jurong Gather Constituency.

Marine Parade-Braddell Heights

  • It contains parts of the Maiposhin area, as well as Montbaden (surround Tanjung Katung Elementary School) and Podong Brazil (surrounded by Star and Batley Middle School).

  • The name is included in “Bled Ridge”.

West Coast-Jurong West

  • It is composed of parts of Jurong West and Daman Jurong in the Jurong Group Constituency, as well as parts of the West Coast Group Constituency.

  • The Harbor and Sentosa of the West Coast Ghetto constituency are included in the Latin Mass District; Dover and Telau Branja are included in the Tanjong Pagar constituency.

After the constituency scope is adjusted, the average number of members in the constituency is 4.56, lower than the 4.65th in the 2020 general election.


Four sets of constituencies adopt new combination names

The Commission believes that the use of double-barrelled names can better reflect the geographical scope of these constituencies and strengthen local identity:

  • Jurong East-Bukit Batu

  • Marinparley-Bled Ridge

  • West Coast – Jurong West

  • White Sands-Changi


Nine constituencies remain the same

The Commission recommends that the scope of the nine constituencies remain unchanged:

  • Bishan-Toa Payoh Collection Constituency

  • Jalan Beshaji Constituency

  • Maxiling-Yuchiji Constituency

  • Yishun Collection Constituency

  • Sengkang Ghetto Constituency (opposition area)

  • Bukit Banjang Single Selection District

  • Hougang Single Constituency District (opposition district)

  • Marimond Single Selection

  • Pioneer Single Selection
