The Liu Deguang Foundation donated 8 million yuan to Nanyang Technological University to support college students from local low-income families, and set up scholarships to attract outstanding Indonesian students to apply for master's degrees.
Nanyang University issued a statement on Friday (March 14) saying that Nanyang University held a donation ceremony with a charitable foundation named after Indonesian coal tycoon Liu Deguang that day. The school has received 8 million yuan donated by the foundation, which will further promote fair education and the cultivation of global talents.
6 million of this will be used for the economic aid program of Nanjing University. This fund will set up a Liu Deguang Foundation scholarship to provide financial support to undergraduate students with a per capita income of no more than 750 yuan in local families to ensure that economic conditions will not become an obstacle to their pursuit of higher education.
It is estimated that about 60 students will benefit from it every year. The sponsored students will not only have tuition fees at all, but also receive a living allowance of RMB 3,000 per year.
The remaining 2 million yuan will be established to establish the Liu Deguang Foundation scholarship to support the Indonesia-Nanyang Technological University Talent Programme launched in June last year.
