After losing access to the U.S. market and Android support, Huawei developed its own operating system, HarmonyOS, first revealed in 2019 as an Android fork.
Now, Huawei has officially launched HarmonyOS NEXT, marking it as China’s first homegrown mobile operating system and the world’s third major OS after Apple’s iOS and Android.

HarmonyOS NEXT features a refreshed look with new lock screen and home screen customization options, a redesigned control center, and improved app launch speeds. It also includes advanced AI capabilities powered by the Pangu large language model.

With a self-developed core, HarmonyOS NEXT frees Huawei from Android dependency, allowing for an independent ecosystem. The system boasts over 15,000 apps across 18 industries, reaching more than 38 million enterprises in China.

The new OS enhances fluency by 30% and streamlines access, with many apps updated daily. Exclusive native apps improve performance and user experience, featuring upgraded graphics and animations that adapt to various devices, including smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.
