About 100 extra quarantine rooms for domestic workers arriving in Hong Kong have been added to the rooms already available bring the total to around 2,000, as the city seeks to ease its shortage of home helpers.
The Courtyard by Marriott Hong Kong Sha Tin has been added to the scheme, and will provide an additional 500 quarantine rooms at a cost of HK$650 per night.
The changes mean that from December 8, there will be 2,000 slots available for fully inoculated foreign domestic workers.
Recruitment agencies had earlier said the existing slots were far from sufficient to cater for the large number of helpers – some 6,000 – from the Philippines and Indonesia waiting to work in Hong Kong, sparking a bidding war among nervous employers.
