After the US eased quarantine requirements, Chinese students were eager to get to American campuses to start their fall semester.⁠

Hundreds of thousands of Chinese students typically head to the US before the new semester starts in September. But limited flights amid the Covid-19 pandemic have pushed tickets prices abnormally high.⁠
⁠
The cheapest tickets were at least double the price from September 2019. Last week, the cheapest one-way flight departing before September 1 from Beijing or Shanghai to New York, Boston or any other major US city with two transfers cost nearly US$3,000.⁠
