China Earthquake Networks officially determined that an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred at 02:27 on June 24 in Shanshan County, Turpan City, Xinjiang (41.73 degrees north latitude, 90.67 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 25 kilometers.

There are no villages within 20 kilometers of the epicenter of the earthquake, and no townships within 100 kilometers. The epicenter was 135 kilometers away from Shanshan County, 182 kilometers away from Gaochang District, 205 kilometers away from Toksun County, 236 kilometers away from Mulei Kazak Autonomous County, 264 kilometers away from Yizhou District, 183 kilometers away from Turpan City, and 339 kilometers away from Urumqi City.
