Backpacks are now completely banned through the remainder of the school year for the 2,800 public schools in Flint, Michigan. Concerns over concealed firearms prompted the prohibition, which includes even the see-through, plastic backpacks.

More cases of students reporting to school with guns have been occurring in the U.S., the latest involving a high-schooler in Tennessee whose hidden gun accidentally went off last week, wounding a teacher. Students in Flint will also be subjected to searches under the new policy.
