China’s Su Bingtian missed out on a medal in men’s 100m final, but still made history.
He had already become the first Chinese runner in the men’s 100m final and only the second Asian, and entered Sunday night’s showpiece as the joint-fastest qualifier in 9.83 seconds.
However, a poor start cost him a chance of a medal in what was a competitive race. Su finished sixth in 9.98 as Italy’s Marcell Jacobs took Olympic gold in 9.80.
