Family members and friends of Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh are still waiting for justice one year after she was killed while covering an Israeli army raid in the occupied West Bank.

Israel’s military initially said that Abu Akleh could have been shot by Palestinian gunmen but later admitted that she was most likely hit by an Israeli soldier unintentionally.

As a correspondent with the Al Jazeera news channel, Abu Akleh was wearing a clearly marked protective press vest and helmet when doing her job. Witnesses have said there were no Palestinian fighters firing in the area where Abu Akleh was standing.

In December, Al Jazeera Media Network asked the International Criminal Court to investigate but no action has been taken.

Her family hoped that the FBI could do a serious investigation into the case. However, the FBI agents investigating the shooting still have not contacted key witnesses. #cgtnamerica
