Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen thanked his “inspiration” Chen Long after beating him in the Tokyo Olympics men’s badminton singles final. After being congratulated by the Chinese star, Axelsen asked him if they could exchange their jerseys. ⁠

Japan’s Sena Irie celebrated victory over the Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio during the Women’s Feather final. The 20-year-old won the first gold medal for a female Japanese boxer in Olympic history, while Petecio is the first female boxer to bring a silver medal for the Philippines. ⁠
