According to a number of media reports on the island, on the evening of September 2, Hon Hai Technology Group issued a statement stating that the company’s founder Guo Taiming resigned as a director of the company due to “personal reasons”.
Hon Hai Technology Group stated that among the nine directors of the current board of directors, more than half (five seats) are independent directors. Therefore, after Guo Taiming resigned as a director, there is no need to immediately by-elect directors. Four years ago, Liu Yangwei took over the post of chairman of the company from Guo Taiming.
Island media analysis pointed out that Guo Taiming’s resignation as a director of the company may be related to his announcement to participate in the 2024 Taiwan leader election. Previously, Hon Hai Technology Group had stated that the company would not participate in related political activities.
On August 28, Guo Taiming held a press conference to announce his independent candidacy, which caused an uproar in public opinion on the island. In response to Guo Taiming’s earlier public statements of support for the Chinese Kuomintang candidate Hou Youyi, the Blue Camp accused him of “breaking his promise.”
