Hong Kong breached a new threshold with about 2,000 suspected Covid-19 cases reported on Sunday, along with more than 1,340 confirmed infections, as sources revealed authorities were considering imposing rolling lockdowns according to districts.
Another insider familiar with the pandemic situation said the government was considering carrying out testing according to districts, with all 18 areas covered.
Two of the latest 1,347 confirmed cases on Sunday infections were imported, while the rest were locally transmitted. Of those, 14 were suspected Delta cases, 1,283 were believed to be Omicron, while the remaining were pending genome sequencing.
Three elderly patients were in critical condition, one of whom was unvaccinated. A three-year-old girl who tested preliminary-positive was also listed as critical.
The city’s official tally of confirmed cases stands at 22,980, with 221 related deaths.
