Hong Kong has joined a growing list of jurisdictions imposing tough travel and border controls on southern African countries, amid global concern over the “Omicron” variant.
The new coronavirus strain has so far mostly been detected in South Africa but has already been found in the city.
Non-Hong Kong residents travelling from Botswana, eSwatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe will not be allowed into the city effective as of midnight.
Fully vaccinated city residents can still arrive from those countries but will have to quarantine for three weeks.
