Never before have there been so many people internally displaced around the world because of violent conflicts and natural disasters.
By the end of 2022, 71.1 million individuals were living in their own countries but away from their homes, the Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre said in its latest report published Thursday.
That’s a 20 percent increase from 2021 in people experiencing homelessness or living in refugee camps due to factors beyond their control.
By the end of 2022, 5.9 million people were displaced from their homes in Ukraine, 6.8 million within Syria, and almost 3 million in Ethiopia.
