In February 1960, Ren Ming was born in Shijia Hutong, not far from the Beijing People’s Art Theater. When graduating from high school, in order to apply for the directing department of the Central Academy of Drama, which only recruits students every three years, Ren Ming would rather stay at home for three years, or go to work in a troupe, and finally was admitted to the Chinese opera with the first place in his major. In 1987, Ren Ming graduated from the Chinese Opera Directing Department. He Bingzhu, a teacher of the directing department and Lin Zhaohua’s wife, recommended Ren Ming as an assistant director for Lin Zhaohua during his graduation internship. He once said: “I have never changed my aspirations, and I am very fortunate that my ideal in life was realized when I was 27 years old.
