Rocket sirens sounded in southern Israel on Sunday afternoon, a day after Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group agreed to a ceasefire.
Israel’s military said a rocket fired from Gaza landed in an open area and caused no damage.
The truce went into effect at 10 pm on Saturday. Except for a handful of rockets fired from Gaza, it has largely held. Many Gaza residents spent Sunday assessing the damage to their houses.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a cabinet meeting and said he told his military and intelligence chiefs, “Well done.”
Over five days of fighting, Israel says Islamic Jihad fired almost 1,500 rockets at Israel, and Israel conducted more than 400 strikes in Gaza.
The Gaza Health Ministry said 35 Palestinians were killed. Two people were killed in Israel.
Sunday marked the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence proclamation.
