On January 8, 2019, a rating agency reported on the alleged sale of expired food in “family” stores across the country, including the Fudan University store in Yangpu District.
After receiving the grievances, the Shanghai Yangpu District Market Supervision Bureau immediately organized law enforcement officers to conduct inspections at the Fudan University store involved, focusing on whether there were sales of expired food, temporary food management and the destruction of expired food. At the same time, the bureau arranged and carried out food safety inspections covering all 92 “family” stores in the jurisdiction.
Up to now, it has not been found that the “family” stores have sold out-of-date food.
The Yangpu District Municipal Supervision Bureau stated that it always maintains a “zero tolerance” attitude towards food safety violations. Next, the Yangpu District Municipal Supervision Bureau will carry out special inspections on food shelf life for other sales terminals. Once illegal activities such as selling expired foods are found, they will be seriously investigated and punished according to law to ensure the safety of the people on the tongue.
