The 18-year-old is the first athlete to win medals – 2 gold, 1 silver – in three different freestyle skiing disciplines at a single Winter Games.
Team China’s Eileen Gu had her second gold in the bag with no athlete able to challenge her stellar 95.5 in the second run of the women’s freeski half-pipe.
Knowing the gold medal was in hand, she performed stylish tricks on her third run rather than the usual technical turns and take-offs, scoring 30.
“I chose to do a victory lap because I felt like for the first time I really deserved it and I really earned it,” she said.
“It was a great punctuation on this amazing journey up to the Olympics.”
The San Francisco-born Gu previously won gold in the women’s big air and silver in the slopestyle, helping to take China’s overall gold tally to 8.
