The Hong Kong government is expected to impose a “large-scale lockdown” when it requires all residents to complete three coronavirus tests as part of its universal screening drive in the second half of this month.
A source familiar with the situation said the administration was also planning to compress the testing period from a planned 15 or 21 days to just nine.
“We are still deliberating different scales of lockdown,” the source added. “Exemptions will be granted for personnel responsible for maintaining essential services.”
The source said going out to buy food during the lockdown was also among the exceptions being considered by the government.
