The Hong Kong Observatory is expected to raise its typhoon signal No 8 between 4 and 6pm on Tuesday and all school classes have been cancelled as Tropical Cyclone Kompasu, the second typhoon to hit the city in four days, gathers strength.
As of noon, Kompasu was about 560 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong and forecast to move west at some 25km/h across the northern part of the South China Sea.
In preparation for the No 8, members of the public are advised to lock all windows and doors and reinforce gates if needed, based on precautionary measures from the Observatory.
