The M+ museum of visual culture at the West Kowloon Cultural District has finally opened its doors to the public.
For its opening exhibition, the museum has chosen about 1,500 works from its collection of 6,413 pieces, displayed in 33 galleries spread across 17,000 square metres.
Described as a global museum for art, design, architecture and the moving image, it was originally meant to open in 2017, but was beleaguered by years of complaints that it was taking too long to build.
And even after its opening, it has been dogged by two questions: Does it properly represent Hong Kong? Which Hong Kong does it represent?
