Domestic trade operation
In 2018, domestic trade maintained a steady and rapid development, the scale was steadily expanded, and the structure continued to be optimized. It provided strong support for promoting stable economic growth, promoting high-quality development, and ensuring and improving people's livelihood. The main situation is as follows:
First, the total amount of social zero increased by 9%, and consumption has become the first engine of economic growth for five consecutive years. In 2018, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 38.1 trillion yuan, an increase of 9% over the previous year, and continued to maintain steady and rapid growth. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods accounted for 18.4% of the total amount of social zero, an increase of 3.4 percentage points over the previous year. The consumption upgrade momentum did not decrease. The Engel coefficient was 28.4%, down by 0.9 percentage points. The service consumption accounted for 44.2% of the per capita consumption expenditure of residents, an increase of 1.6 percentage points. The contribution rate of consumption to economic growth reached 76.2%, an increase of 18.6 percentage points over the previous year, and it became the first driving force for economic growth for five consecutive years.
Second, the added value of domestic trade reached 11.7 trillion yuan, and the status of the national economy was further consolidated. In 2018, the major domestic trade sectors (including wholesale and retail, accommodation and catering, residential services, repairs and other services) realized an added value of 11.7 trillion yuan, accounting for about 13% of GDP, accounting for second only to manufacturing. It accounts for about 25% of the added value of the tertiary industry. Among them, the wholesale and retail industry added value of 8.4 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.2%; the accommodation and catering industry added value of 1.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.5%.

In 2018, the number of newly established market players in domestic trade was 14.12 million, with an average of 39,000 new households per day. At the end of 2018, there were 73.43 million domestic market players, an increase of 10% over the previous year, accounting for 68% of the total number of market players in the country, ranking first in all industries. Among them, the wholesale and retail market market was 54.84 million, an increase of 8.6%; the accommodation and catering industry market was 10.39 million, an increase of 19%.
Fourth, the employment of 200 million people has been absorbed, and the role of stable employment and people's livelihood has been highlighted. According to preliminary estimates, the number of domestic trade employment reached 208 million at the end of 2018, an increase of 8.5% over the previous year, surpassing the 200 million mark for the first time; accounting for more than a quarter of the national employment, accounting for more than half of the employment in the tertiary industry.
