The number of complaints from consumers about the decoration industry continues to remain high. The amount of prepayment lost last year exceeded 700,000 yuan. The Singapore Consumer Association will provide certification subsidies for local decoration contractors, and encourage more decoration providers to apply for the Consumer Association to guarantee the logo certification to better protect the interests of consumers.

There are currently 183 decorators that have obtained the CaseTrust certification, and the Consumer Association hopes to increase the number to 500 in the next three years. The subsidies provided by the Consumer Association from April 1 will be as high as 80%, reducing the economic burden that decoration companies need to bear in the early stage of receiving certification.

Data released by the Consumer Association in early February showed that complaints received in 2024 increased by 2%, with a total of 14,236 cases. The decoration industry is the fourth most complaint industry, with 962 cases; despite the slight improvement in the situation, the decoration industry suffered an advance payment loss of approximately RMB 728,000 in 2024, the highest amount among all industries, accounting for one-third of the total amount.

When speaking at the Consumer Association’s consolation dinner on Saturday (March 15), Yang Yicai mentioned the figures related to the decoration industry and said that the Consumer Association was deeply concerned about the high number of complaints in the decoration industry.

After studying the data, the Consumer Association found that in the last year, less than 3% of the complaints against the decoration industry involved decoration companies certified by the Consumer Association, and all the complaints of these decoration companies were resolved.
