I suspected that I had encountered a novice driver, and the public complained that the bus took the wrong route and was still turning U in front of the traffic light. When asked, SMRT pointed out that appropriate disciplinary measures have been taken against the bus commander.
The incident occurred at 6:39 am last Saturday (March 8) at the junction of North Ponavesta Link and North Ponavesta Passage.
Ms. Zhuo (36 years old, cleaner) informed the Xinming Daily that when she was passing by nearby to go to work, she saw a bus on Route 185 doing a U-turn. She was very confused at the time because according to her understanding, the bus should be heading towards Jinmao, and the main station was in the Dutch village.
She suspected that the driver who drove the bus was a novice, so she would take the wrong route.
According to the video provided by Ms. Zhuo, the bus turned right after going backwards. Then the bus went backwards again. The bus successfully redirected, which lasted about one minute. There were no passengers on the bus, only the bus driver.

When asked, Ni Zhengquan, deputy managing director of SMRT bus, pointed out that at 6:30 a.m. last Saturday, a bus on Route 185 mistakenly turned left and entered North Ponavesta Road instead of continuing to go straight along the West Federal Road. After discovering the error, the bus commander made a U-turn at the junction of the North Ponavesta Link and the North Ponavesta Passage and drove back to the designated route.
“The safety and health of passengers remain our top priority. We have taken appropriate disciplinary measures against bus commanders and are strengthening safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.”
Ni Zhengquan also said that they sincerely apologized to the affected passengers for the extended journey time and the inconvenience caused.
