Singapore Democratic Party Secretary General Dr. Xu Shun-Quan seems to be interested in playing in Bukit Bato District again in the coming parliamentary elections. He holds a nine-day fundraising meal to prepare for the campaign to be launched.

Xu Shunquan has posted on Facebook since February 1 to promote a fundraising dinner at the Orange & Teal restaurant he opened. According to the restaurant's website, the fundraising dinner will be held from February 18 to 26, with dinner on weekdays and afternoon tea on Saturdays and weekends, with 100 yuan per person.

Xu Shunquan posted a post on Wednesday (19th), with a video of him discussing current affairs. In the front section of the video, he called on the public to support his Bukit Bato campaign and sign up for the fundraising dinner.

He has run for the parliamentary seat of Bukit Bato District twice, in the May 2016 by-election and the July 2020 general election, and the confrontation between the People's Action Party's Mu Renli. He lost both times, with votes of 38.79% and 45.20% respectively.

Bukit Bato District held a by-election in May 2016 because former PAS MP Wang Jinfa, who resigned due to extramarital affair and quit the party.

The next general election must be held in November this year at the latest. Many people have previously speculated that Xu Shunquan may play in Bukit Bato District again. With him hosting a meal and explaining that it is raising funds for the Bukit Ba Tom’s campaign, it seems to point to him that he will challenge the Bukit Ba District again.

In the latest video released, Xu Shunquan criticized the recent remarks of Education Minister Chen Zhensheng. Chen Zhensheng pointed out in a lecture that the practice of screening and recruiting students with excellent grades to enter cram schools is very undesirable, and doing so will only increase parents' anxiety.

Xu Shunquan believes that Chen Zhensheng is wrong about the topic, and the topic that should be focused on is why students still rely on tutoring in the current era of artificial intelligence; and the current content-oriented and test-oriented education system cannot cultivate people who can lead the country forward.
