An escalator accident occurred in SengKang Grand Mall, a shopping mall located in Wanguo. A girl was caught in the escalator and was then rescued by civil defense personnel and sent to the hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred at around 6:50 pm on Saturday (February 22). According to videos circulating on social media, dozens of passers-by attracted attention after the accident, and a mall staff member maintained order near the escalator. Although the escalator has stopped operating, the girl's left foot is still stuck in the gap and cannot move, and the girl also cries because of fear and pain.

A woman hugged the girl and kept comforting her and tried to call for help.

In response to the enquiry from Lianhe Zaobao, the civil defense force confirmed the accident. After the civil defense personnel arrived, they used rescue equipment to rescue the girl and sent her to Zhujiao Maternal and Child Hospital for treatment.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, there are two electric escalator accidents every day in local areas, more than 40% of the accidents involve elderly people over 60 years old, and about 10% are related to children aged 12 and under. A spokesman for the Construction Bureau pointed out that escalators generally have safety features, such as setting up skirt brushes that prevent passengers from getting too close to the edge of the escalator, and emergency shutdown buttons. “Despite these measures, parents must remain vigilant when using escalators with their children.”
