Sanbawang Air Force Base will build a solar power farm, and the power produced is equal to the annual electricity consumption of 4,700 four-bedroom HDB units, which can save the Singapore Armed Forces about 1.9 million yuan in electricity bills each year.
This is the first solar farm built by the armed forces in a military facility with a capacity of 18 megawatt peak.
The armed forces set a goal in 2021, hoping that by this year, the total capacity of 50 megapixels of solar panels will be installed in the military camps and bases across the island, equivalent to 13,000 four-bedroom units with annual power consumption. The military hopes to reduce the growth rate of carbon emissions by two-thirds by 2030.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Senior Minister of Defense of Defense Zajiha announced the construction of a solar farm as Congressional Appropriations Commissioner debated the Ministry of Defense's budget on Monday (March 3).
He said that over the past three years, the armed forces have installed solar panels for the military camp through the Housing Development Bureau's SolarNova program. By the end of this year, most military camps will be equipped with solar panels on the roofs.

“The locations where solar panels are installed are carefully selected to ensure that they do not affect our combat effectiveness. This includes conducting detailed research to avoid the light refracted by solar panels, which poses a danger to military aircraft. Where feasible, we will continue to deploy solar panel equipment in the Department of Defense or other military camps.”
