Starting from July 1, the monthly allowances for full-time national service personnel of Singapore’s Armed Forces, Police Forces and Civil Defense Forces will increase, with an increase ranging from RMB 35 to RMB 75, with an overall adjustment of about 4% to 5%.

Senior Secretary of Defense Minister Wang Zhihao announced the news Monday (March 3) when the Congressional Appropriations Committee debated the Ministry of Defense expenditure budget. He said the authorities regularly reviewed and adjusted allowances for full-time service personnel to ensure they could cope with basic living expenses.

The national service allowance has been adjusted four times in the past 10 years, the last time was in July 2023, when the increase was 125 yuan to 200 yuan. After the latest adjustments, the monthly allowance for recruits is 790 yuan.

The national service allowance includes a vocation allowance of at least 75 yuan. National service personnel who work in specific positions can receive additional position allowance.
