The Singapore Armed Forces plans to send medical teams to the Middle East to provide medical assistance to Gaza civilians affected by the Israeli-Kazakhstan conflict. However, our country will not send personnel directly to Gaza.
Defence Minister Dr. Huang Yonghong pointed out in a debate on the Ministry of Defense expenditure budget at the Congressional Appropriations Committee on Monday (March 3) that due to the extremely high security risks of setting up medical facilities in Gaza in the short term, sending personnel to Egypt, Jordan or the United Arab Emirates is a more feasible alternative.
“We don't want to put armed soldiers and civil volunteers in danger,” he said.
The armed forces are formulating specific plans and have communicated with relevant parties in the Middle East.
Huang Yonghong said that in the past few months, more and more Gaza civilians have traveled to Egypt, Jordan and the UAE for treatment. Therefore, in the next few months, the Armed Forces Medical Team or with the medical team of our Ministry of Health will go to these areas to provide medical support.
