In the past two years, the Health Sciences Bureau has received about 4,000 to 5,000 cases involving the possession or use of e-cigarettes from the police, only one of which is caused by parents who take the initiative to report their children to the police about e-cigarettes.
In response to a question from the Councillor Dr. Chen Youming (Jurong Gathering Constituency) on Monday (March 3), the Ministry of Health and Minister of Government of the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, Rahayu said on Monday (March 3) that in the above case, the parties were not fined in the end, but were warned and referred to the Health Promotion Bureau for counseling.
Chen Youming then asked a question, and residents of Jin Wentai reported to him that some parents took the initiative to report to the police that their children were smoking e-cigarettes, but were fined 300 yuan? “Indeed, in this particular case, we were able to deal with it promptly and properly respond in this case because the MP reported it to us.”
“Overall, we will take a more gentle and supportive approach to those who voluntarily seek help and want to quit e-cigarettes, especially when parents take the initiative to bring their children to the table.”
Regarding whether to consider setting up a vaping cessation clinic, Rahayu said that parents who are worried about their children smoking e-cigarettes can call the quit line of the Health Promotion Bureau to apply to the quit smoking and quit e-citration services of the Health Promotion Bureau. The relevant agencies will not take law enforcement actions against these children.
