The internship and employment assistance program piloted by the School of Technology and the Singapore Assistance Agency for the Disabled Persons with Disabilities has provided internship or pre-employment training for 100 special-needed students in the Institute of Technology since its launch in the middle of last year. The plan will be expanded next, reaching approximately 200 to 250 people per year.
Dr. Meng Liqi, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Education and Foreign Affairs, announced the above news Thursday (March 6) as Congressional Appropriations Commissioners debated the Ministry of Education's expenditure budget.
Currently, about 1,000 students in the Institute of Technology and Education have special educational needs every year, including students from mainstream middle schools.
Last year, the Institute of Technology and the Singapore Assistance Agency for the Disabled Persons with Disabilities (SG Enable, referred to as Xinhuili) jointly launched an internship and employment assistance program, providing training to the needs of individual Institute of Technology and Education students to further improve their employment ability so as to better transition to the workplace.
This includes improving these students' skills in preparing for personal resumes, accepting interviews and other applications, as well as their workplace communication skills. Then, they will be paired to the right internship or job position, and there will be a workplace tutor to help them adapt to their work needs.
