The State Administration of Cultural Heritage is piloting a new program to support traditional enterprises with historical, community and cultural significance, and to recognize these local enterprises with a long history, so that Singaporeans can better understand the products and services of these enterprises and support the development of local enterprises.

The news was announced by Liu Yanling, Senior Secretary of Administration of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, on Monday (March 10) when the Congressional Appropriations Committee debated the department's expenditure budget.

The project, called the Singapore Cultural Heritage Enterprise Program, is part of Singapore Cultural Heritage Program 2.0, aims to protect Singapore's cultural characteristics and living cultural heritage and support the wider cultural heritage ecosystem.

The program will be the first to be piloted in historical districts such as Chinatown, Kampung Glam and Little India, opening up the application for local businesses that have been registered and operated for more than 30 years.

Liu Yanling is also the senior minister of government affairs of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. She said: “Businesses who are eligible to be designated as Singapore's cultural heritage companies must operate for at least 30 years, while providing localized products or services and making significant contributions to promoting the identity of Chinese people. These recognized companies will receive support for brand promotion and business development, such as consulting service subsidies, etc..”
