After being suspected of falsely reporting the whereabouts of the server to the supplier, the three men were allowed to be released on bail for about two weeks after face-to-face charges and remanded them from 600,000 to 1 million yuan. It was also revealed in court that the amount involved in this case was as high as US$390 million.

Chinese man Li Ming (51 years old) and two local men, Wei Zhaolun (49 years old) and Wen Guojie (41 years old), each face two charges. The three have been under investigation by the police station since they were faced on February 27.

When the case was handed over in the National Court on Thursday (March 13), the prosecution applied to set the bail amounts of Li Ming, Wei Zhaolun and Wen Guojie at 1 million yuan, 800,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan respectively. The prosecution also required Li Ming, a foreign national, to wear an electronic tracker while on bail, and applied to extend the case for eight weeks to complete the investigation.

Li Ming's lawyer represented by the law did not object to the prosecution's application, while Wei Zhaolun and Wen Guojie's lawyers each requested a reduction in bail on the grounds that the defendant was Singaporean or his family was local.

The prosecution pointed out that even though the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, the current investigation shows that Wei Zhaolun and Wen Guojie believe that the total amount involved is US$250 million (about S$333 million), while the total amount involved is US$140 million (about S$186.48 million). Wei Zhaolun received eight-digit dividends, while Wen Guojie received seven-digit dividends from the company involved.

Based on the huge amount involved in the case, the prosecution believes that the amount of bail proposed by the prosecution is appropriate to ensure that the two continue to attend the investigation and court hearings.

In addition, Wen Guojie and Wei Zhaolun face serious charges and can be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. The Bureau of Commercial Affairs has so far discovered that they made false statements to the two suppliers. The investigation is still ongoing, and whether other suppliers are involved is still unknown.

The judge approved the prosecution's application and ordered Li Ming, Wei Zhaolun and Wen Guojie to be 1 million yuan, 800,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan. Li Ming's bail conditions also include wearing an electronic tracker. The three people's case was promulgated until May 2nd.

Wei Zhaolun and Wen Guojie are currently facing two charges, saying that the two have conspired to make false statements to two server (“items”) suppliers Dell and Supermicro (Supermicro) in 2024, saying that the “items” will only be transferred to the final consignee and will not be transferred to other unauthorized persons.

Li Mingze is suspected of fraudulent server supplier Chaowei in 2023 and made false statements that Luxuriate Your Life Pte Ltd will be the end user of “items”. He was also accused of using an OCBC account to transfer and collect money for Luxuriate Your Life Privacy Ltd. on June 19, 2024.

None of these cases states the details of the server and are replaced by the word “item”.

Home Minister and Attorney General Shanmugan held a press conference earlier to clarify the case. He stressed that the investigation of the case originated from anonymous reports, and had nothing to do with any country or entity, nor was it at the request of the United States, nor did it involve the export controls imposed by the United States on Nvidia's advanced chips.

The servers involved in this case are sold by US server suppliers Dell and Supermicro, and may be provided to other countries, but after these servers are shipped from local to Malaysia, whether the final destination is Malaysia or other locations, it is currently impossible to confirm. These servers may also contain U.S. export-controlled items, such as Nvidia chips. (Translation of the name)
