The server rack of a data center on Caishi Road caught fire and one person was sent to the hospital for inhaling thick smoke.

The fire occurred at about 6 a.m. on Friday (March 14) at the 750C data center in BizPark @ Chai Chee, ESR, Caishi Road Commercial Building.

In response to the enquiry by Lianhe Zaobao, the Civil Defense Force confirmed that it had received relevant notifications that the fire involved a server's rack. Firefighters used dry powder fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire, and the building's sprinkler fire extinguishing system also started on its own in the accident.

One person was taken to Singapore General Hospital for inhaling thick smoke.

According to the Straits Times, the Singapore Internet Exchange platform sent an email saying that the fire was caused by the explosion and had appointed an engineer to investigate thoroughly. Preliminary inspections show that the servers in the center are still running, but the company needs some time to fix the damage.

HostSG, a company that provides website and domain name hosting, posted on Facebook that the WebSatMedia data center, which provides data services, has caused fire due to circuit problems.

HostSG said the Civil Defense Forces have cut off the power from the entire building and banned people from entering the building. According to the company, customer data was not lost due to fire, but the company's server temporarily interrupted service due to power outage in the data center.

The insect-extinguishing company 1800nopests also posted on Facebook that the data center's fire has caused the company's emails and websites to not function for the time being.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There are currently more than 70 data centers in the local area. At about 8 a.m. on September 10 last year, a fire broke out at the SIN11 Digital Loyang 1 data center located on Luoyang Avenue and affiliated to Digital Realty, a U.S. data center real estate investment trust, which affected two battery rooms, two power rooms and a equipment storage room in the attic on the third floor. After more than 60 hours, the Civil Defense Force completed the wetting work and returned it to the operator two days later, at 10:30 on September 12.
