A rare “sun halo” appeared at noon on Saturday (March 15). The public looked up at the sky and could see a rainbow aperture of infrared purple inside formed around the sun.
The photographer of Lianhe Zaobao witnessed this beautiful scene outside the Guanyin Hall on Sima Road on Quinn Street and immediately captured it with a camera. Many passers-by and vendors setting up stalls also took out their cell phones and tried to take pictures of sun halo.
It is observed that the sun halo phenomenon this time has been maintained for at least half an hour.

Sun halo, also known as round rainbow, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon. When the sunlight passes through the cirrostratus in the sky, it shoots into the ice crystals in the clouds. After two refractions, it will disperse into light in different directions and colors.
