The under-planned “Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 Plan” will launch two new initiatives, namely promoting the use of artificial intelligence in multiple fields, and launching large-scale cross-field R&D projects to promote multi-party cooperation in specific economic and national strategic priorities.

Vice Premier Wang Ruijie pointed out when Congress participated in the government's fiscal policy debate in the new fiscal year on Thursday (February 27) that the RIE 2030 investment plan for the 2026-2030 project is under preparation, with the plan covering two new initiatives.

One is the application of artificial intelligence (Applied AI), which involves the application of artificial intelligence in priority areas, including healthcare, education, finance, advanced manufacturing, logistics and transportation.

He said: “Applied AI is at the intersection of artificial intelligence and domain knowledge. Based on the professional knowledge of practitioners in the fields of healthcare, education, finance, engineering, etc. in our country, we will increase investment and cultivate scientific talents so that these researchers can build a bridge between artificial intelligence technology and domain expertise.”

Another new initiative is to launch the “RIE Flagship Project” and the “RIE Big Challenge” large-scale cross-field R&D projects, in specific economic fields, as well as national strategic priority areas, and promote multi-party cooperation projects.

The “RIE flagship project” will promote value creation in key economic fields, while the “RIE Challenge” will respond to national strategic priorities.

Wang Ruijie pointed out that this will integrate the research and transformation capabilities between Chinese universities, Singapore Science and Technology Research Bureau and research institutions, public institutions, and private institutions to form a series of coordinated and synergistic projects.

“The link between research, transformation and commercialization will be strengthened to advance key economic sectors, lead to new products and new companies, and address real-world needs and problems,” he said.

Wang Ruijie revealed that the relevant authorities have begun to formulate these initiatives, and the first “RIE Challenge” aims to deal with opportunities and challenges of health and longevity; the first “RIE Flagship Project” focuses on promoting the research and development of semiconductors and microelectronics in my country. More details are to be announced.
