Jingshan Public Library will be closed for renovations from October 1 this year and is expected to reopen in the first half of 2027.
The State Library Administration issued a statement on Monday (March 3) saying that Jingshan Library will be moved from the third floor of the current Hougang Mall to the fifth floor; after the renovation project is completed, the library space will be expanded from the existing 1,467 square meters to about 2,500 square meters.
The renovated library will provide readers with a spacious reading and learning space, and launch more projects and services that inspire innovative thinking. The library design will also integrate the unique scenery of Hougang District.
The statement pointed out that the renovation of Jingshan Library is a series of continuous efforts by the Bureau of Painting and Administration to improve the existing libraries, and it also cooperates with the Asset Enhancement Initiative launched by Frasers Centrepoint Trust for Hougangfang.
Jingshan Library will continue to provide normal services until September 30, 2025. During the renovation period, Hougangfang will set up a “Browse-n-Borrow” automatic book lending machine, and the public can browse the book content before borrowing. The book borrower can store up to 550 books and 100 books booked by readers at the same time.
