Locally produced food has not been able to meet 10% of the nutritional needs of Chinese people in more than five years. The government is reviewing the food resilience target for 2030 and discussing how to solve the problems of productivity, costs and demand more targetedly to ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural industry.
Xu Baokun, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Environment and Senior Government Affairs of the Ministry of Human Resources, said on Tuesday (March 4) that less than 10% of the products currently consumed by Chinese people are produced locally. The government is reviewing the production strategies of local agricultural products and will announce more details after completing the inspection.

Xu Baokun said in an exclusive interview with Lianhe Zaobao in May last year that as the Lincuogang agricultural land development plan is about to take shape, it may be the time to evaluate the 30.30 vision in the next few years.

To strengthen food safety, we cannot rely solely on one policy. Xu Baokun said that a multi-pronged approach must be taken, including maintaining food inventory and providing buffering when food supply is interrupted.
