Starting from March 10, Singaporean citizens aged 40 and above can apply for training allowances when applying for specific full-time training courses, which is 50% of the average income of the past 12 months, at least 300 yuan per month, up to 3,000 yuan.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Minister Yan Xiaofang announced the news Thursday (March 6) when she debated the Ministry of Education's expenditure budget on the Congressional Appropriations Committee.
The government launched the Skills Future Level-Up Programme in last year's fiscal budget, encouraging employees to improve their skills and enhance their employment by providing an additional 4,000 yuan in skills training subsidy, midway career enhancement allowance, and a training allowance of up to 3,000 yuan per month.
Yan Xiaofang revealed that the government has provided Skills Future Credit with a Skills Future Credit since mid-last year to Singaporeans aged 40 and above, and now more than 28,000 people have used it.
The SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance, originally only provided to full-time trainees, will be expanded from early 2026 to employees who choose to take part-time courses to improve their skills. Whether you are studying for a full-time or part-time course, individuals can receive up to 24 months of training allowance to reduce the income or additional study expenses lost due to leave to study. Freelancers can also apply for training allowances.
