The man sent a threatening message to his ex-girlfriend saying he wanted to take her life, and also sent a text message to his ex-girlfriend's employer, threatening to bury them alive and was sentenced to six months in prison, but was sentenced to committing the crime while on bail and 136 days in prison.

The defendant Tan Quanhui (30 years old) faced a total of 12 charges, pleading guilty to three of the charges of criminal intimidation and two of the violation of the Prevention of Harassment Act (POHA).

According to the case, the person reported the case was a 25-year-old Vietnamese woman, who was the defendant's ex-girlfriend.

On June 5 last year, the woman called the police and accused the defendant of swearing in a text message and threatened to take her life. The text messages sent by the defendant include: “You are the first person in my life who really wants to kill”, “I don't mind being sentenced to death or life imprisonment for ending your life.”

The defendant also posted two intimate photos taken when he was dating the woman on the same day, saying that the woman was a “prostitute” or a “slut”.

Not only that, the defendant also sent a text message to the woman's female employer (32 years old) through Telegram communication software on October 23 last year, saying that he would go to find her and her subordinates, and threatened in the text message: “The company will be overwhelmed by blood” and “You are all buried alive.”

Death Threat Investigator

The defendant's case was extended. When the investigator contacted the defendant on September 12 last year about the progress of the case, the defendant threatened: “I will stab you to death and tear you apart your face so hard that you cannot be recognized.” The defendant also sent insulting text messages to the investigator.

The defendant was remanded for medical testing from June 7 to June 28 last year, and was then detained in Changi Prison from June 28 to July 20. On November 1 last year, the defendant was revoked and was remanded to this day.

The prosecution pointed out that the defendant had a criminal record of harassment, panic or fear with threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviors, and therefore believed that the punishment must be severe enough. The prosecution demands six to eight months in prison, plus a 150-day prison sentence.

When the defendant pleaded, he said that he had regretted it and would use this period to reflect on it and plan for the future to ensure that this was the last time he went to jail.

The judge finally sentenced the defendant to six months in prison for committing the case during bail and 136 days in prison. (Translation of name)
