The National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University have five disciplines, ranking among the top three in the world in the latest QS world university discipline rankings, and ranked first among Asian countries and regions.

British education market consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the “2025 World University Discipline Ranking” on Wednesday (March 12).

This university discipline ranking covers 55 disciplines in more than 1,700 universities in 100 regions around the world, and evaluates more than 21,000 courses. Evaluation indicators include academic reputation, employer evaluation of universities, number of citations for research papers, etc.

A total of 102 academic courses from five local public universities and higher education institutions were listed, of which 34 were among the top ten in the world, meaning that one-third of the disciplines ranked among the top ten in the world. Compared with last year, 56% of the disciplines ranked higher, 19% remained unchanged, 22% decreased, and 3% were newly listed disciplines.

NUS and NUS have five disciplines in the world. Among them, NUA's art history continues to rank second in the world; NUA's materials science ranking rose to second in the world; the other three ranked among the top three disciplines in the world for the first time, including NUA's library and information management, NUA's civil and structural engineering, and social policy and administration.

Nanjing University has the most subjects on the list, with a total of 48 subjects, while National University has 46 subjects. Singapore Management University is on the list of 12 disciplines, Singapore University of Science and Technology Design and two are from La Salle College of Art. The Asia Pacific Management Institute is on the list for the first time in the field of hotel and leisure management, ranking 151.

QS Senior Vice President Ben Sowter said Singapore's performance in the 2025 QS World University Discipline Ranking, with four disciplines ranked among the top three in the world for the first time, further consolidating Singapore's position as a world-class education and research center.
