Singapore Progressive Party believes that compared with the last 2020 parliamentary election, the National Constituency Review Committee this time revealed more reasons behind the constituency-wide revision proposals, but is still not transparent enough.
The report of the National Constituency Review Committee was released on Tuesday (March 11). When responding to the Lianhe Zaobao inquiry, the Qianjin Party said that the review committee still did not explain the reasons behind the majority decision, and the Qianjin Party believes that in dealing with population changes, there is actually no need to significantly change the existing constituency scope.
Taking the population growth of residents brought about by the new town of Tengga as an example, the Forward Party believes that the Review Committee can unite Bukit Bato District and Yuhua District to form a new constituency. However, in the report, the Review Committee referred to the increase in the population of the Tengga as the reason for the changes in the scope of the Jurong Group, the West Coast Group, the Choa Chu Kang Group, the Tanjong Pagar Group and the Latin Mass District.
The Forward Party said it would study the report of the National Constituency Review Committee and announce at the appropriate time which constituencies will compete for in the next general election.
